The ruling on fasting after the middle of Sha'ban

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner from Syria—Umm 'Abd al-Rahman—says in this question: "Your Eminence, is fasting after the fifteenth of Sha'ban forbidden, or disliked? We ask you to provide us with information."

Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When it is the middle of Sha'ban do not fastإذا انتصف شعبان فلا تصوموا
Bulugh al-Maram 5:42
This is an authentic hadith. Therefore, the one who did not fast in the first part of the month is not permitted to fast after the middle; because of this authentic hadith. Likewise, if he fasts at the end of the month, he is not permitted to do so, a fortiori; because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not observe fast for a day, or two days ahead of Ramadan except a person who is in the habit of observing a particular fast; he may fast on that day.لا تقدموا رمضان بصوم يومٍ، ولا يومين إلا رجلٌ كان يصوم صومًا؛ فليصمه
Sahih Muslim 1082a
As for the one who has a habit; there is no harm. If his habit is to fast on Mondays and Thursdays; there is no harm in his fasting. Or if his habit is to fast one day and break the fast the next, there is no harm. But to begin fasting after the middle specifically for the sake of Sha'ban; this is not permissible.
As for if he fasts starting from the fourteenth, or from the fifteenth, or from the thirteenth, or ... there is no harm; because if he fasts all of it, or most of it, there is no harm. But for him to break the fast in the first half, and then begin [fasting], that is what is prohibited.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence the Shaykh.
