The validity of the deceased hearing the people of this world

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner says: Does the deceased know our news? How is that if he knows it? And does he hear us when we go to the grave and speak to him?

Answer:
This requires detail: As for his hearing their news in an absolute sense, no. Allah the Exalted says:
Indeed, you will not make the dead hearإِنَّكَ لا تُسْمِعُ الْمَوْتَى
[Surat al-Naml: 80] And He says the Exalted:
but you cannot make hear those in the graves.وَمَا أَنْتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ
[Surat Fatir: 22] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).إذا مات ابن آدم؛ انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية، أو علم ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 1383
And from that, hearing is cut off, except for what came in the explicit text, meaning: what is excepted. For example, his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the deceased when they leave him:
he hears the stepping sound of their shoesإنه ليسمع قرع نعالهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 3231Sahih (Al-Albani)
This came in the explicit text that he heard, and that he hears the angels in his grave when they ask him: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? This came in the explicit text.
As for his hearing their news in their houses, no, there is no evidence for it, and he does not hear, nor does he know their news, nor does he hear it.
As for one who comes to greet him, there is disagreement among the scholars on this, and there are reports that came with weakness, that if someone he knows greets him, Allah returns his spirit to him so that he returns the greeting. This is a strong position. And from this is the authentic hadith where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If any one of you greets me, Allah returns my soul to me and I respond to the greeting.ما من أحد يسلم علي إلا رد الله عليَّ روحي حتى أرد عليه السلام
Sunan Abi Dawud 2041Hasan (Al-Albani)
.
This is a strong position: that if someone he knows in this world greets him, his spirit is returned to him so that he returns the greeting. This is a strong position, but the hadiths regarding their authenticity have been examined and found to be weak. So it is said: this is possible, Allah knows best. It is possible if the reports are authentic, because the reports contain weakness. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
