The Fruits of Lowering the Gaze

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We then move on to a message received from Kuwait from your brother, the questioner who used the initials (J. S. Sh.) Al-Rashidi. He says: What are the fruits of lowering the gaze in this world and the Hereafter, and is there a word—O Shaykh—that you would direct to the youth regarding this matter?

Answer:
Lowering the gaze is among the most important matters and among the best acts of obedience. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private partsقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ
[Al-Nur: 30]. And in the hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever lowers his gaze, Allah will make him find sweetness in his heart.من غض بصره؛ أوجده الله حلاوة يجدها في قلبه
.
The point is that lowering the gaze is among the great acts of drawing near to Allah and among the obligatory duties. This is because letting the gaze wander is one of the causes of approving what the eye may encounter of women or male prostitutes, and thus fitnah occurs… fitnah occurs. So lowering the gaze is among the most important obligations and among the greatest causes of salvation and happiness.
It is obligatory for the people of faith to lower their gaze and to beware of the evil of looking. And so it is for the woman; it is obligatory for her to lower her gaze and to beware of the evil of letting her gaze wander. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith, when he was asked about the sudden glance where a man looks at a woman suddenly, he said:
Avert your gazeاصرف بصرك
. And he said to Ali, when he was asked about the glance, he said:
while you are not to blame for the first, you have no right to the secondإن لك الأولى، وليست لك الثانية
Sunan Abi Dawud 2149Hasan (Al-Albani)
. The first one that happened suddenly is yours; it was not by your desire—meaning you did not choose it—but the second one is not yours. Meaning: the first one is yours because you did not intend it, and the second one is not yours. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
