Is it permissible to give charity on behalf of anyone other than one's parents?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the questions of the questioner (N. A. M.) from Jordan, she says: My uncle passed away, and I wanted to give charity on his behalf. Some people told me that it is not permissible to give charity except on behalf of your father after his death, while for others, such as an uncle or a maternal uncle, the charity does not reach them. What is your opinion on this, O Shaykh?

Answer:
The one who said this is ignorant and mistaken. In fact, charity is accepted and benefits the father and the mother, and others besides them, by the grace of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He). Charity for the deceased benefits him, and supplication for him benefits him. So if you give charity on behalf of your uncle, or your brother, or anyone else, there is nothing wrong with it; it is all good. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyahإذا مات ابن آدم؛ انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية...
Riyad as-Salihin 1383

Sahih Muslim 1631
A man asked him, saying: O Messenger of Allah! My mother passed away and did not leave a bequest. Will she receive a reward if I give charity on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

So charity contains much good for the living and the deceased. Likewise, supplication and seeking forgiveness for the living and the deceased, and performing Hajj on behalf of the deceased, and 'Umrah on behalf of the deceased. And likewise, for the elderly person who is unable, and the old woman, performing Hajj on her behalf, and 'Umrah on her behalf.
The point is: that charity on behalf of the deceased contains much good, and on behalf of the living as well, whether it is for an uncle, or a brother, or a father, or others. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
