Guidance for those whose fathers prevent them from visiting their relatives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says in her final question (B. A. S.) from Alexandria, Egypt: "My father prevents us from visiting our relatives, such as: maternal uncles, maternal aunts, paternal aunts, and friends. He almost holds us accountable at home and only allows us to go to the houses of knowledge. What is your opinion on this, O Shaykh?"

Answer:
The father may have a sound opinion in preventing you from visiting the maternal aunt, maternal uncle, and the like; because visiting them may bring you harm. The maternal uncle may not be steady, the maternal aunt may not be steady, and he fears for you the harm of these visits. The evidence for this is that he allows you to visit the houses of knowledge so that you may benefit. This indicates that he only prevented you out of fear for you regarding these visits. If the maternal uncle, or the maternal aunt, or the paternal uncle, and paternal aunt are people of righteousness and good, then he will not prevent you. So you should discuss with him the matter he is preventing you from, and know the reasons for the prevention.
So the father is not to be suspected; he loves good for his children. If he prevents you from something, then the original ruling is the obligation of obeying him; because he is an advisor to his child and loves good for his child. So obeying him is part of obeying Allah. If it becomes clear that he prohibited you from something that is in your interest and contains good, then negotiate with him and discuss with him using good words and a good manner; until the matter becomes clear. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
