The ruling on a man washing the body of a deceased female relative

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner asks: Is it permissible for a man to wash the body of a deceased female relative, such as his mother, daughter, aunt, or maternal aunt, or is it limited to washing his wife only? Please advise us, and may Allah reward you.

Answer:
A man is not permitted to wash the body of a woman, whether she is his mother, sister, or daughter, except for his wife only, or a concubine whom he owns and with whom he is permitted to have intercourse, i.e., a slave woman. As for any other women, a man is not permitted to wash their bodies. Rather, women wash women, and men wash men, except for the wife only. For example, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) washed Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), and the wife of al-Tayyib, Asma bint Umayyis, washed her husband al-Tayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) . Likewise, a concubine is treated the same as a wife; a slave concubine with whom he is permitted to have intercourse is washed by him and she washes him, just as a wife does, because she is owned by him through a legal right of ownership.
As for him washing his mother, daughter, or sister, that is not permissible. However, if there are no women available, she is given tayammum (dry ablution); he wipes her face and hands with dust, performing tayammum for her, and this suffices if there are no women present and she has no husband. In that case, she is given tayammum, meaning her guardian wipes her face with dust, performing tayammum for her face and palms, and then the funeral prayer is performed over her.... That is, she is given tayammum, shrouded, and the funeral prayer is performed over her. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
