Does the deceased benefit from supplication? And does he know who supplicated for him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says in this question: If a person dies and one of his relatives, such as his mother, his father, or his brothers, supplicates for him, does that supplication reach him? And does he know the person who supplicated for him?

Answer:
Supplication benefits the deceased, just as Allah mentioned regarding the believers from the righteous predecessors. Allah says about them:
And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faithوَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالإِيمَانِ
[Al-Hashr: 10]. So, supplication benefits the deceased. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).إذا مات ابن آدم انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية، أو علم ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 1383
Allah has prescribed the funeral prayer because the Muslims supplicate for the deceased in the funeral prayer after the third takbir; they seek forgiveness for him and ask for mercy upon him. So, supplication benefits the deceased by the consensus of the Muslims. Likewise, charity on his behalf: if his relatives or others supplicate for him, it benefits him. Likewise, charity on his behalf, Hajj on his behalf, and 'Umrah on his behalf; all of this benefits him and increases his good deeds and the weight of his scale. As for whether he knows that, that is up to Allah . Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
