The best of what reaches the deceased in terms of rewards

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the best thing that reaches the deceased after his death, O Shaykh?

Answer:
Supplication for him; it is the Sunnah to supplicate for him, and to give charity on his behalf. All of this benefits the deceased. So the Sunnah for his relatives and others is to supplicate for him for forgiveness and mercy, to give charity on his behalf, to perform Hajj on his behalf, and there is no harm in performing 'Umrah on his behalf. All of this is good. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is there anything left by which I can do good to my parents?" He said:
Yes, you can invoke blessings on them, forgiveness for them, carry out their final instructions after their death, join ties of relationship which are dependent on them, and honour their friends.نعم، الصلاة عليهما، والاستغفار لهما، وإنفاذ عهدهما من بعدهما، وإكرام صديقهما، وصلة الرحم التي لا توصل إلا بهما
Sunan Abi Dawud 5142Da'if (Al-Albani)
And a man said: "O Messenger of Allah! My mother has died, so will she have a reward if I give charity on her behalf?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Yesنعم
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).إذا مات ابن آدم انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقةٍ جارية، أو علمٍ ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 1383
Allah the Exalted said:
And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faithوَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالإِيمَانِ
[Al-Hashr: 10], the verse. And the funeral prayer was legislated for the deceased for this reason; he is supplicated for after his death, and mercy is invoked upon him in the funeral prayer. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
