How 'Uthmay (may Allah be pleased with him) collected the Mushaf

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother is asking about the collection of the Noble Qur'an by the noble Companion 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). Our brother asks: Did 'Uthman delete some of the letters? Or did he establish some recitations over others? He continues on this topic, if you would be so kind, Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz?

Answer:
It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The Qur’ān was sent down in seven modes of reading, so recite according to what comes most easily.إن القرآن أنزل على سبعة أحرف فاقرءوا ما تيسر منه
Mishkat al-Masabih 2211
. The researchers among the scholars of knowledge said: It is close in meaning but differs in wording. So when 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard of the people's disagreement and Hudhayfah came to him and said:
Beware of the peopleأدرك الناس
, he consulted the Companions present in his time, such as 'Ali, Talhah, al-Zubayr, and others who were in his time. They suggested collecting the Qur'an on a single script so that the people would not differ. So he collected it by forming a four-member committee, such as Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) . They collected the Qur'an on a single script, wrote it down, and distributed it to the regions so that the people would adopt it and so that the dispute would cease.
As for the seven recitations and the ten recitations, they are within the same text that 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) collected, which is what the well-known reciters follow. It is within what 'Uthman collected, whether it is an addition of a letter, a reduction of a letter, an elongation, a diacritical mark in the Qur'an, or something similar to this. All of this falls within the single letter that 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) collected and was pleased with.
The purpose of that is to preserve the speech of Allah and to prevent the people from the disagreement that may harm them and cause fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) among them. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) did not make it obligatory to recite with the seven letters, but He said...:
So recite what is easy from itفَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ
[Surah al-Muzzammil: 20]. So the people's agreement on a single letter is a good deed, and 'Uthman and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) are to be thanked for it, because of the facilitation and ease in it, and the cutting off of the material for disagreement among the Muslims. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
