Question:
In the era of the Commander of the Faithful, 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), he gathered all the copies of the Qur'an from all the regions and burned them, leaving only his copy. Since the Torah and the Gospel have been distorted, who can guarantee us that this remaining copy—which is 'Uthman's copy—has not been distorted?
Answer:
The Shaykh: Allah, Exalted and Majestic, said: [Al-Hijr: 9]. Allah, Glorified is He, informed us that He is its Guardian, and He is the most truthful of speakers. 'Uthman kept several copies of the Qur'an; it was not just one copy. He wrote the copies, gathered the four [reciters], and they studied the copies, gathered them, and wrote them down. Then he sent several copies to Sham, to Egypt, to Yemen, to Hijaz, and to Iraq, and he kept several copies with him in Madinah. Then he burned the rest so that the matter would not become confused and so that some errors would not occur.
The Muslims have unanimously agreed on the goodness of his action and thanked him for this work. The Companions present in his era unanimously agreed on his good deed, except for what is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud: that his copy remained with him.
In any case, 'Uthman did well in this, and the Muslims thanked him for his work. His copies exist and are preserved. The Muslims have unanimously agreed to preserve them and that nothing has been changed in them, and that no deficiency or addition has befallen them. This is the unanimous agreement of the Muslims from the era of the Companions to this day, in verification of His saying, Exalted and Majestic:[Al-Hijr 15:9].
The Muslims have preserved it by heart from the era of the Companions to this day, generation after generation, group after group, and century after century, by millions of Muslims. So, by the praise of Allah, there is no doubt or suspicion; because it has reached us preserved and complete, with no letter diminished from it and no letter added to it, as 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) established and was pleased with, and as it was in the final recitation in which our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it to Jibril in Ramadan in the tenth year.

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.
