The Means That Help One Remain Firm on the Path of Guidance

Question:
This young man says: A young man found the straight path after he was in misguidance. What are the means that will help this young man continue in righteous deeds, O Shaykh?

Answer:
The means are that he should fear Allah and watch over his obedience to Allah, that he should increase in the remembrance of Allah, that he should gain knowledge of the religion, that he should increase in reading the Qur'an with reflection and understanding, that he should keep the company of the good and righteous, and that he should stay away from the company of the wicked. These are among the causes of safety and firmness: that he increases in obeying Allah and following His Shari'ah, that he cares for the Noble Qur'an and the pure Sunnah, that he keeps the company of the good and stays away from the company of the wicked, and that he asks his Lord often to make him firm upon the truth and to protect him from the evil of his own self and from Satan. These are the causes of safety.
