Ruling on Designating the Night of the Fourth Day After Death for Slaughter and Charity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother asks and says: The family of the deceased, on the night of the fourth day of the mourning period, slaughter sheep and say: It is charity on behalf of the deceased. We do not know whether it is from his wealth that he left for his heirs, or from the wealth of some relatives, or whether it is a contribution from some of those who came to offer condolences late in the process?
We ask for details on the ruling of this, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Making this a habit is not permissible. The fact that they habitually slaughter sacrifices and give charity on behalf of the deceased on the fourth day, or the seventh, or the fortieth, is a religious innovation (bid'ah). This is not permissible. However, if guests come to them on the third day, or on the fourth, or on the fifth, and they slaughter for them, or if they have sacrifices with them and slaughter some for them, there is nothing wrong with that for the sake of honoring the guests.
As for making it a custom on the fourth day, or the third, or the fifth, or the tenth, or the seventh, or any other day, this is not permissible. Rather, it is obligatory to abandon religious innovations (bid'ah) and to be cautious of them. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
