The Shaykh's explanation of the types of verses clarified by the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So when He, the Exalted, said in the previous verse:
And We revealed to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ
[An-Nahl 16:44]
; He means that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarifies many of the verses. Some may be general in meaning and thus require clarification and interpretation; some may be absolute and thus require restriction; and some may be general in scope and thus require specification. And so on. The Qur'an revealed to the heart of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is like a constitution. I say: like a constitution, with no comparison intended. It is like a constitution for Islamic jurisprudence and the pure Sunnah. That is, it is the foundation, and the details come from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the manner I have described to you: if a verse is general in meaning, he clarifies it; if it is absolute, he restricts it; and if it is general in scope, he specifies it. Where do we take these three types from? From the Sunnah. Therefore, whoever does not take from the Sunnah does not take from the Qur'an. Whoever believes in the Qur'an, even if only in his heart, but does not elevate his understanding of the Qur'an to the Sunnah of his Prophet, is a disbeliever in the Qur'an. And among the first signs of his disbelief is his denial of the previous verse:
And We revealed to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ
[An-Nahl 16:44]
. This is the clarification of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). My speech here undoubtedly contains some generalities that require much detail, but time is almost catching up with us as the time for breaking the fast and prayer approaches.
