Is there zakah on silver kept as ornaments and antiques?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
She has another question in which she says: A woman has silver ingots, or silver bracelets, and a long time has passed, and she is keeping them, and the purpose is not trade or wearing, but rather she keeps them as ornaments and antiques. So, is there zakah on her or not? And if zakah is obligatory on it, what is the nisab that must be paid out, and what does she do about the zakah of the past years?

Answer:
There is zakah on jewelry, even if it is for wearing, and even if it is for keeping for other needs. Zakah is obligatory on it if it reaches the nisab, according to the correct opinion of the scholars, whether it is for wearing, lending, or saving. She must pay zakah on it if it reaches the nisab. The nisab for gold is twenty mithqals, and its amount in Saudi riyals is eleven and a half Saudi riyals, or European riyals. If it reaches this, she owes zakah, and if it is less than that, there is no zakah on it. The zakah is one-quarter of one-tenth: from every one thousand, twenty-five riyals, and in ten thousand, there are two hundred and fifty, which is one-quarter of one-tenth. This is the zakah on gold and silver. The nisab for silver is one hundred and forty mithqals, and its amount in Saudi riyals is fifty-six riyals. So, she must pay zakah on the silver as one-quarter of one-tenth, and on the gold as one-quarter of one-tenth, even if it is jewelry, according to the correct opinion of the scholars; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If any owner of gold or silver does not pay what is due on him, when the Day of Resurrection would come, plates of fire would be beaten out for himما من صاحب ذهب ولا فضة لا يؤدي زكاتها إلا إذا كان يوم القيامة صفحت له صفائح من نار
Sahih Muslim 987a
.
So, it is obligatory to pay the zakah absolutely; this is the correct view, even if it is for wearing. And because it was established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that "a woman came to him, and she had two bracelets of gold, and he said:
Do you give the zakah of this?أتعطين زكاة هذا؟
She said: No. He said:
Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your hands?أيسرك أن يسورك الله بهما يوم القيامة سوارين من نار؟!
Sunan Abi Dawud 1563Hasan (Al-Albani)
So she threw them down and said: They are for Allah and His Messenger." Yes.
The first questioner about jewelry also asks about the years that have passed. The answer regarding the years that have passed is that she owes nothing, as long as she did not know. So, she owes nothing for what has passed, but she should start now, paying zakah in the future after she has learned.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
