The obligation of one who has a sister who visits her husband's grave
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I have a sister who is much older than me, and her husband has passed away. She goes to visit him in the cemetery. Given that she is much older than me, I am unable to ask her not to visit her husband in the cemetery, as the Shari'ah states. What is the ruling? May Allah reward you.
Answer:
It is obligatory for you to convey the Shari'ah to her and to advise her; for religion is advice, and Allah the Exalted says:[9:71] And He the Exalted says: Indeed, mankind is in loss, except those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.[103:1-3].
So advice is part of enjoining one another to truth. Likewise, His saying the Exalted: [Al-Ma'idah: 2]. Advice is part of cooperating in righteousness and piety. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It was said: For whom, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Sahih Muslim 55a You advise her and say: O my sister! It is not permissible for you to visit graves, neither your husband's nor anyone else's; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) You advise her and tell her: Visiting graves is not permissible for women, neither for a husband nor for anyone else. In fact, the apparent meaning of the hadiths is that it is one of the major sins; because the curse... the curse is only for great sins. But she should make du'a for him in her house, and in any place, she should make du'a for him... she should send mercy upon him... she should give charity on his behalf. This is good.
As for visiting the cemeteries for the sake of visiting him, this is prohibited. And you must advise her and teach her. We ask Allah for guidance and success for everyone.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
