Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message received by the program from the listener Abu Muhammad ibn Ahmad Ali. We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdul Aziz, saying: I am a person who has performed Hajj and 'Umrah—praise be to Allah—and I have the intention to perform Hajj and 'Umrah for my parents. Do I start with the father or the mother? And is the Hajj for the father or the mother? Likewise for the 'Umrah? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon His Messenger, upon his family, and upon his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
The evidences from the Shari'ah indicate that the mother's right is greater and larger than the father's right. Among this is his saying—peace and blessings be upon him—when a questioner asked him, he said: O Messenger of Allah! Who is the most deserving of my good companionship? He said: He said: Then who? He said: He said: Then who? He said: He said: Then who? He said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1897Hasan (Darussalam).
In the two Sahihs, it is narrated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said, when asked: Which people are most deserving of good companionship? He said: He said: Then who? He said: He said: Then who? He said: He said: Then who? He said: .
If the parents have not performed Hajj, and they died before performing it, you start with the mother, then you perform Hajj on behalf of the father. And likewise, if they have both performed Hajj, you start with the mother. However, if the mother has performed Hajj and he has not, you start with the father and perform Hajj on his behalf, because he has not performed it, and she has, praise be to Allah.
Performing Hajj on their behalf is an act of nearness to Allah and obedience, as is giving charity on their behalf, making du'a' for them, and seeking forgiveness for them; all of this is obedience and nearness to Allah. It is your right, and it is prescribed for you to make du'a' for them, seek forgiveness for them, and give charity on their behalf. This is part of dutifulness to them after their death. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
