Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the questions of this questioner, she says: What is your opinion, Your Eminence—may Allah preserve you and protect you—regarding one who has committed many sins and committed major sins since his youth, then repented to Allah with a sincere repentance? Does he have a repentance, and if he repents and does good deeds, are all his previous sins erased, or is it necessary that he be held accountable for them?
Answer:
When a servant repents with a sincere and wholehearted repentance from all his evil deeds, Allah forgives them for him, even if he was in shirk (associating partners with Allah), provided he repents with a valid, sincere, and wholehearted repentance involving regret, abandoning the sin, and resolving not to return to it, and he follows it with righteous deeds; then he has a great reward, and Allah erases his evil deeds and replaces them with good ones (Exalted and Majestic is He). Allah the Exalted said: [20:82] And He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Al-Furqan 25:68] "His punishment will be multiplied on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in humiliation, except for those who repent and believe and do righteous deeds. For those, Allah will replace their evil deeds with good ones, and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. " [25:69-70] With repentance, Allah replaces their evil deeds with good ones.
The Shaykh: If they repent with a sincere repentance from shirk (associating partners with Allah), from zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), from drinking intoxicants, from undutifulness to parents, from killing, or from anything else, and if they repent with a sincere repentance, feeling sincere regret, resolving not to return to sins, and standing firm in obedience to Allah and His Messenger, Allah will forgive their evil deeds and replace them with good ones .

But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
