The Permissibility of Swearing by the Attributes of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the Arab Republic of Egypt, the questioner Salim says: I heard from some people that it is not permissible to swear by the attributes of Allah, especially the attribute of life. So I told them that swearing by the life of Allah is permissible based on what I have read. Is my statement correct?

Answer:
Yes. Swearing by Allah, by His attributes, and by His names is all true and all permissible, just as it came in the hadith:
a’udhu bi’izzatil-lahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiruأعوذ بعزة الله وقدرته من شر ما أجد وأحاذر
Sunan Ibn Majah 3522Sahih (Darussalam)
,
and I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrathأعوذ برضاك من سخطك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5534Hasan (Darussalam)
,
I seek refuge in the perfect wordsأعوذ بكلمات التامات
. So seeking refuge in the attributes of Allah, seeking refuge in the words of Allah, and swearing by them, all of that is permissible. One swears by Allah, swears by His attributes, by the majesty of Allah, by the power of Allah, by the knowledge of Allah, and by the life of Allah; all of that is permissible. Just as one says: "By Allah" or "By Allah" or "By the Merciful" or "The Compassionate" or "The Mighty" or "The Wise"... all of this is permissible. And likewise if one says: "By the majesty of Allah," or "By the majesty of Allah," or "By the knowledge of Allah," or the like of that.

The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you.
