Treating Whispers in Ritual Purity and Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner : Your Eminence! We are discussing waswas (whispers of doubt). Many of our sisters complain of waswas in prayer and ritual purity. Some of them sit in the bathroom for about half an hour, for example, repeating their wudu' over and over. What is the successful cure for this, Your Eminence?

Answer:
The Shaykh : As mentioned earlier, this is from Shaytan. It is obligatory to be cautious of his whispers and to be sincere in that, and to ask Allah for well-being with sincerity. By doing so, these whispers will disappear, whether in prayer or in ritual purity. It is obligatory for the one praying, whether male or female, to turn away from these whispers and to seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, even during prayer. When 'Uthman ibn Abi al-'As al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: "O Messenger of Allah! Shaytan has confused my prayer for me," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
If you find that, then spit to your left three times and say: "I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan" three times.إذا وجدت ذلك فانفث عن يسارك ثلاث مرات وقل: أعوذ بالله من الشيطان ثلاث مرات
. 'Uthman said: "So I did that, and Allah removed that waswas from me."
The Shaykh : So my advice to everyone, men and women, is to seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan from this waswas when praying, or in ritual purity, or in tawaf, or in anything else. Let the man and the woman have strength, energy, high ambition, and seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan. Ask Allah for assistance, success, steadfastness upon the truth, and well-being from the stings of Shaytan. Spit to your left three times, and say: "I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan," three times when you feel this. If you are sincere with Allah in seeking refuge and ask Allah for well-being, Allah will protect you and suffice you against the evil of your enemy. Yes.

The presenter: Do the daily recitations (awrad) have an effect on this, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh: Yes, the morning and evening recitations have an effect on this. Increase in the recitations that contain supplication and asking Allah for well-being from all evil, asking Allah for well-being from Shaytan, and asking Allah for guidance and correctness. So the recitations have their great effect. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you and reward you with good, Your Eminence.
