Explanation of the words of Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): "And when you diminutivize hubara, it is better... between al-hubayra, so choose, and al-hubayr."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said:
"And when you diminutivize hubara, it is better... between al-hubayra, so choose, and al-hubayr"
Do you think hubara is known to you?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : A type of bird.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Hubara, you hunted a small hubara, what do you say?
The student: Hubayra.

The Shaykh : Do you say you hunted a hubayr or a hubayra?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Huh? It is all the same. It is permissible to delete the third alif and keep the last alif, and it is permissible to delete the last one and keep the first one. But if you keep the first one, you must delete the second one, because it is obligatory to break (kaff) what comes after the yaa of diminutivization. So you say in hubayr: fa'ayyal. Thus, you have two opinions in it: hubayr and hubayra. As for whether they mentioned it or not, that goes back to the books of language.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : The plural... hubara, hubar.
