What is the nature of sleep that invalidates the ablution?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : e : Okay, regarding deep sleep that invalidates the ablution.

The Shaykh: What about water?

The questioner : e : Sleep.

The Shaykh: What is its nature?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: You say water, what did you say?

The questioner : e : No, no, I am saying sleep. You have written that sleep is an absolute invalidator, with no difference between sitting and lying down.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : e : Yes, the hadith is that
The eyes are the leather strap of the anus, so one who sleeps should perform ablution. وكاء السَّه العينان ؛ فَمَن نام فليتوضَّأْ
Sunan Abi Dawud 203Hasan (Al-Albani)
.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : e : This is in its absolute sense, even if the sleep is slight.

The Shaykh: Yes, I am telling you, whether it is like this or like that, but sleep is different from drowsiness.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: So if it is sleep, even if it is slight, but do you distinguish between sleep and drowsiness? May Allah know best, do you know what sleep is? And do you know what drowsiness is?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh: So if you know the difference between the two.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: You know that sleep is an invalidator, whether it is little or much, whereas drowsiness does not invalidate. The difference between the two is if you remember yourself one day in a gathering and drowsiness took over you. We all feel this feeling of drowsiness. The drowsy person is not absolutely absent from existence. He begins to hear the sound, but he does not distinguish the speech. He does not know who is speaking, whether it is Zayd or Bakr or Zaynab or Fatima, and so on.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: But he still hears a sound.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: So if he reaches a state where he does not hear, then he is the sleeper.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: You understood.

The questioner : e : Yes, may Allah reward you with good.

The questioner : e : So this sleep, if it is minutes, or even moments, the ablution is invalidated.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: Because he is absent from his existence. As for the one who continues to hear the sound but does not understand, he is drowsy, so his ablution is not invalidated. Did you understand, or not yet?

The questioner : e : I understood, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh: Peace be upon you.

The questioner : e : And upon you be peace. .

The questioner: ... the criteria is hearing the sound, meaning one of the criteria is not ... meaning a feeling like this is not sleep.

The Shaykh: What kind of feeling.

The questioner: Meaning a state like this where one can also hear ... this amount ... the sensation is drowsiness.
