How to Treat Physical and Spiritual Illnesses
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: My wife has been afflicted with a certain illness, and she has become afraid of everything and unable to stay alone. Another man says that he complains of the same condition, in that he is unable to go to the mosque to pray with the congregation. He asks about treatment so that he does not have to resort to fortune-tellers and sorcerers.
A: Indeed, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has not sent down a disease without also sending down a cure for it; He has given knowledge of it to those He has given knowledge and kept it hidden from those He has kept it hidden from. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has placed in what He revealed to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of the Book and the Sunnah a cure for all the physical and spiritual illnesses from which people complain. Allah has benefited His servants with this, and through it has come about good that none can count except Allah, Mighty and Majestic. A person may be exposed to matters that have causes, and he may experience fear and panic for which he does not know a clear cause.
And Allah has placed in what He prescribed through the tongue of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of good, security, and healing that none can count except Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He.
My advice to these two questioners and others is to utilize the prescribed supplications that Allah the Exalted has legislated, which bring about safety, tranquility, peace of mind, and protection from the schemes of Satan. Among these is reciting the Verse of the Throne, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted: [al-Baqarah:255] to the end of the verse. It is the greatest verse in the Book of Allah and the best verse in the Book of Allah ; because of what it contains of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and sincerity to Allah , and the clarification of His greatness (Exalted and Majestic is He), that He is the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, the Owner of all things, and nothing is too difficult for Him, Glorified and Exalted is He and praised be He.
So if he recites this verse after every prayer, it will be a protection for him from all evil. And so is its recitation at bedtime, for it has come in the authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):.
So let the fearful one recite it at bedtime and after every prayer, and let his heart be at ease. He will not see what displeases him, if Allah wills, if he believes the Messenger (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) in what he said, and his heart is at ease with that, and he is certain that what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said is the truth and honesty in which there is no doubt.
And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has prescribed that the Muslim man and woman recite after every prayer: [al-Ikhlas:1] and the two chapters of protection (al-Mu’awwidhatan). This is also among the causes of well-being, security, and healing from all evil, and [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] is equal to one-third of the Qur’an.
And the Sunnah is that a person recites these three chapters after the Fajr prayer and after the Maghrib prayer three times. And so, when he goes to his bed, he recites them three times, due to the authenticity of the hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this.Sunan Abi Dawud 3898Sahih (Al-Albani) The hadiths have come indicating that this is among the causes of well-being. And so: Sunan Ibn Majah 3869 three times in the morning and three times in the evening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed: .
These dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and seeking refuge from the Qur'an and the Sunnah are all among the causes of protection, safety, and security from all evil. Every believing man and woman should perform them at their times and maintain them, being reassured and confident in their Lord, Glorified and Exalted is He, who is the Sustainer of all things, the Knower of all things, and the Able to do all things, there is no deity but Him and no Lord besides Him, and in His hand is control, prevention, harm, and benefit, and He is the Owner of all things .
And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is the most truthful of people, so he does not speak from desire; it is nothing but a revelation that is revealed, as Allah the Exalted said: [al-Najm:1-4]. Upon him is the best of prayers and the most complete of peace from his Lord.
