The Ruling on the Zakah of a Woman’s Jewelry, Whether Used or Not Used

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message from (M. A. M. Sh.) who did not provide an address. He says in his message: What is the ruling for a man who has a debt that he pays off every month from his salary, and his wife has gold, some of which she wears constantly and some of which she wears on special occasions? Does he have to pay zakah on it or not? Some of this gold has been with us for two years or more and we have not paid zakah on it. Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: Gold is subject to zakah, even if the woman wears it, whether she wears it or keeps it for a need. It is subject to zakah every year if it reaches the nisab. The nisab is twenty mithqals, which amounts to ninety-two grams, and in Saudi riyals, it is eleven and a half riyals, or eleven riyals and three-sevenths of a riyal, meaning eleven and a half for clarification. If the amount of gold jewelry she possesses reaches eleven and a half riyals, it is obligatory for her to pay zakah every year. It is not upon her husband to do so; rather, it is upon her from her own wealth. If she agrees with her husband and he pays it on her behalf from his wealth, there is no harm, and he is to be thanked for that; there is no harm. Otherwise, it is obligatory for her to pay it. However, if her husband, father, or brother pays the zakah on her behalf with her permission, there is no blame on her. Otherwise, she must pay the zakah, even if she has to sell some of her wealth to do so. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
