The Ruling on Listening to, Selling, and Buying Songs
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
May Allah reward you. He is asking again and says: Is listening to songs forbidden? What is the ruling on selling and buying them? If the answer is prohibition, what is the ruling regarding the many shops widespread in Muslim lands that sell song tapes and trade in them? Among their owners are those who pray, and many of them spend on their families and give charity from the profit of selling and buying songs. The same applies to tapes of plays and video-recorded songs and the like. Please inform us, may Allah reward you?
Answer: Listening to songs, selling them, buying them, and trading in them is all forbidden, all of it is blameworthy, and it contains great corruption. It is among the greatest causes of the sickness of hearts and their being prevented from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. Therefore, one must beware of it. The fact that people do this is not a proof, for people do many blameworthy things, so the action of people is not a proof. Rather, the proof is what Allah said and what His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
It is obligatory for the Muslim to beware of these forbidden things and to stay away from them, and not to trade in them. At the same time, he should pray for his Muslim brothers for guidance, success, and rectification. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
