The Ruling on Hearing Songs Unintentionally

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
My sisters Khalud and 'Ahad, the daughters of 'Abd al-Rahman from Jeddah, sent us a message containing several questions. The first question says: We know that listening to songs is forbidden, and by the praise of Allah, we do not listen to them. However, we have neighbors who turn up the volume of the radio, and the sound reaches us. Do we bear any sin for that?

Answer:
You bear no sin. There is no sin on the one who hears the sound if he does not listen to it and does not intend to, but rather it passes by him and he hears it unintentionally. The sin is only on the one who does it or intends to do so and listens to it. You should demand that the neighbors lower the volume of these instruments and songs. They have no right to harm you with that. Rather, it is obligatory for them to lower the volume of what they have so that they do not harm their neighbors. As for you, there is no blame on you if you do not listen, but rather you only heard it unintentionally. Yes.
