Question:
The questioner from Riyadh, whose name is indicated by the initials (A. A. B.), has three questions. In the first question, he says: Your Eminence, I wanted to pray the midday prayer in a mosque on the way from my workplace, but I did not find water in the mosque's restroom, and the house was far from the mosque. I feared that I would miss the congregational prayer, so I went out to the area near the mosque and found clean dust. I performed tayammum and prayed in congregation with the Muslims. Is what I did valid, or must I repeat the prayer?
Answer:
It is not valid, and you must repeat the prayer; because Allah says: [Surat al-Nisa: 43], and you found water, praise be to Allah. Instead of that mosque, go to another mosque, or go to your house to perform wudu, then go to the mosque. If you miss the prayer, pray it in your house, praise be to Allah: [Surat al-Taghabun: 16].
As for performing tayammum when water is available, this is not permissible; it is invalid. We ask Allah for well-being. Yes.
