Ruling on Taking Children to Mosques

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is your opinion, Your Eminence, on taking children to the mosque? Is this forbidden, disliked, or permissible?
I mention that I hear on the tongues of many people a hadith—they say it is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Keep your children and your insane people away from the mosquesجنبوا المساجد صبيانكم ومجانينكم
?

Answer:
It is recommended, indeed it is prescribed, to take children to the mosques when the child reaches seven years of age or older, and to be strict with them regarding it when they reach ten; because by doing so, they become qualified for prayer, and they learn the prayer. Thus, when they reach puberty, they will have already known the prayer and become accustomed to it with their Muslim brothers.
As for children under the age of seven, it is better not to take them; because they may bother the congregation, disturb the congregation, and play. So it is better not to take them to the mosque; because prayer is not prescribed for them.
As for the hadith:
Keep your children away from the mosquesجنبوا المساجد صبيانكم
, it is a weak hadith, it is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, boys are ordered to attend prayer when they reach seven years of age or more, so that they become accustomed to prayer, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Order your children to pray at seven, beat them for it at ten, and separate them in their beds.مروا أبناءكم بالصلاة لسبع، واضربوهم عليها لعشر، وفرقوا بينهم في المضاجع
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5
. This contains encouragement for the believers to bring their children with them, so that they become accustomed to prayer, and so that when they reach puberty, they have already become accustomed to it. Thus, when they reach maturity, they will have already become accustomed to it and to attending it with the Muslims, making it easier and closer to their maintaining it. Yes.
