Ruling on the obligation of ghusl for one who experiences a wet dream

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Regarding wet dreams, we received this message from Jeddah, from the sender (A.A.B.), who says in it: If a man experiences a wet dream and something comes out of him, does he have to perform ghusl and put on new clothes, or does he put this same clothing back on?

Answer:
If a man or a woman experiences a wet dream, they must perform ghusl if they see the fluid, which is semen. A wet dream without fluid does not require ghusl. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked by Umm Sulaym, she said: O Messenger of Allah, Allah is not shy of the truth. Does a woman have to perform ghusl if she experiences a wet dream?
He (peace and blessings be upon him) answered her by saying:
Umm Salamah narrated: Umm Sulaim bint Milhan came to the Prophet and she said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Indeed Allah is not embarrassed of the truth. So is it required of a woman - meaning Ghusl - when she sees in her sleep similar to what a man sees?' He replied: 'Yes. When she finds water (wetness), then she is perform Ghusl.'" Umm Salamah said: "I said to her: 'O Umm SuIaim! You have disgraced the women!'"نعم؛ إذا هي رأت الماء
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 122Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning: the semen. If a man or a woman sees semen after a wet dream, or sees semen even if there was no wet dream, he or she must perform ghusl. Semen is known; it is a thick fluid that results from desire. If a man or a woman sees fluid—which is semen—after their wet dream, or if they wake up and see it even if they do not remember the wet dream, they must perform ghusl, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded this.
As for a wet dream without semen, it does not obligate ghusl, whether it occurs at night or during the day. It does not affect the fasting person, nor does it affect the pilgrim experiencing a wet dream, because it is not by his choice. If he experiences a wet dream during the day of fasting, or at 'Arafah, or in Mina before stoning the pillars, it does not harm him, because it is not by his choice. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear, Yes.
