The questioner : If a man doubts that he had a wet dream, and when he wakes up from his sleep he finds no trace of the wet dream, neither on the garment nor on the body, is the full ritual bath obligatory in such a case?

The Shaykh : It is not obligatory for him to perform the full ritual bath. If he has a wet dream while sleeping and then wakes up and does not see any of the signs of major ritual impurity, then he owes no full ritual bath. This is because Umm Salim asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: “O Messenger of Allah, is the full ritual bath obligatory for a woman if she has a wet dream?” He said:
Umm Salamah narrated: Umm Sulaim bint Milhan came to the Prophet and she said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Indeed Allah is not embarrassed of the truth. So is it required of a woman - meaning Ghusl - when she sees in her sleep similar to what a man sees?' He replied: 'Yes. When she finds water (wetness), then she is perform Ghusl.'" Umm Salamah said: "I said to her: 'O Umm SuIaim! You have disgraced the women!'" نعم إذا هي رأت الماء
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 122Sahih (Darussalam)
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it a condition for the obligation of the full ritual bath for her that she sees the fluid, meaning the fluid of major ritual impurity.
