Ruling on permanently preventing pregnancy after a certain number of children

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From Tripoli, the listener Muhammad 'Ammar Najjar, from al-Fatih University, sent a question asking: What is the ruling in Islam regarding family planning through the use of birth control pills, the IUD, or other methods?
May Allah reward you with good. And what is the ruling on permanently preventing pregnancy after a certain number of children?

Answer:
As for family planning, there is nothing wrong with it if there is a pressing need for it; for example, if she has many children and raising them is difficult for her, or if she is ill, or for other reasons deemed necessary by trustworthy doctors. There is no objection to planning by preventing pregnancy for a year or two, and so on, until things are in order, until she is able to raise her children, or until the illness eases.
As for doing so without a need, no, it is not permissible to take the pills, and it is not permissible to prevent pregnancy; because Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) has prescribed for us the means to increase offspring; and because pregnancy is a favor of Allah upon the servant, and He provides its sustenance, and there is much reward in raising it and the effort involved, provided the intention is sound. Therefore, there is no need to take the pills, or to plan, unless there is a public benefit and a pressing need that necessitates it, such as having many children, the hardship of raising them, or the illness that befalls her, the illness that befalls the mother, or similar valid reasons, whether by pills, IUD, injections, or other means of pregnancy planning.
As for preventing it entirely, it is not permissible to prevent it completely except for a cause, if pregnancy poses a danger to her life, and the doctors state that pregnancy is dangerous for her, then there is no objection to preventing it. Otherwise, it is not prevented, and it is not permissible for her to use prevention; because it is prescribed for her to seek children, and to marry, and her husband is likewise prescribed to seek children. She may do this and regret it greatly.
So the conclusion is: it is not permissible to use pregnancy prevention except for a cause where there is no alternative, which is the fear for her life; because pregnancy poses a danger to her life.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
