Preventing pregnancy is only permissible out of dire necessity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 1585 )
Q: It was stated that: when his wife becomes pregnant, she suffers from exhaustion and illness for two months before delivery and two months after delivery, and that she began using pills and medications to prevent pregnancy for one year, and benefited from them, and that he asked about this and was told: there is no avoiding the woman’s exhaustion before and after childbirth, as is the case for all women, and he requests information on this matter.
A: The original ruling regarding the limitation and regulation of family size is that it is not permissible; because it contradicts what came in the Islamic Shari'ah of the prohibition of seclusion (tubt), which means: cutting off marriage and being strict about it, and the command to marry women who are fertile, so taking
contraceptive pills or other means to prevent pregnancy is not permissible, except in rare cases of dire necessity, such as when pregnancy causes the woman exhaustion and illnesses beyond what pregnant women usually suffer from in pregnancy and childbirth—then in that case, it is permissible to take what prevents pregnancy as a treatment, not as an escape from offspring; due to the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He):
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
and His saying:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacityلاَ يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
and success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
