The Ruling on a Woman Using Contraceptive Medication

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter reached the program from Bahrain, sent by one of the sisters there, saying: The one in distress (M. M. M.) Our sister has a long question; the summary of the question is: As a result of the troubles of pregnancy, childbirth, and raising children, she is forced to flee from her husband due to the effect of the medications taken for birth control. She asks for your advice and guidance.

Answer:
My advice to her is to leave these medications that make her repulsed by her husband, and to bear the burden of pregnancy and childbirth, for perhaps there is much good and many benefits in this. If the children are reformed by Allah, there is good in that for them, good for both their parents, and good for the Muslim community. She should bear it and be patient, and leave the medications that may harm her and damage her, unless there is an illness or a report from doctors indicating that this pregnancy would harm her and cause many dangers to her. In that case, she should adhere to the medical guidelines. If she takes what prevents pregnancy for a year, two years, or more, according to the guidance of the specialized, knowledgeable, and trustworthy doctor, there is no harm in regulating pregnancy in this manner for the sake of the legitimate interest and to avert harm from her and her young children.
As for merely seeking luxury and comfort, this is not befitting and is not permissible; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the Muslim community to seek offspring and increase the Muslim community. He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Marry women who are fertile and loving, for I will be boasting with you before the nations on the Day of Resurrection.تزوجوا الولود الودود فإني مكاثر بكم الأمم يوم القيامة
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:869
And in some narrations:
The prophets on the Day of Resurrectionالأنبياء يوم القيامة
.
So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged having many children and informed that he will boast with his Ummah over the nations on the Day of Resurrection. So having many children through the legitimate path, with patience and endurance, contains much good. Perhaps Allah will benefit the Muslim community through them, and Allah will benefit their parents through them if He reforms them.
So what is prescribed for the woman is to bear and be patient until the children increase through the lawful path and through the legitimate husband, and praise be to Allah, except for a cause and harm that is necessary. In that case, there is no harm in taking what alleviates this effect and this harm through the specialized doctors and specialized female doctors, so that the regulation is with knowledge, with insight, and in a legitimate manner.

The presenter: May Allah bless you.
