Question:
The questioner from Egypt (M. A.) says: Your Eminence, I am a young man living in a society that favors early marriage. I got married after I finished my studies, and that was at the wish of my parents, without my own conviction. I lived with my wife for three years, all of which were without any sense of responsibility. I was between the ages of twenty and twenty-three, and I had two children from her. Then I was unable to complete the journey, so I divorced her. My father was angry with me, and I suffered from hardships and harassment. I remained in this state until my father was pleased with me after three years. I then married another woman, but I did not find happiness either, so I divorced her at her request and in response to her demand. Now, Your Eminence, I feel that I wronged my first wife, and I wronged my second wife and did injustice to her. I feel self-reproach despite the fact that the first wife has married another man. What do you advise me to do? May Allah reward you.
Answer:
If you see in yourself the desire, and you have the ability for companionship with women and intercourse with women, then marry a third woman, and praise be to Allah. Ask your Lord to make things right between you and the third woman, and to make her righteous and good. What has passed has passed; do not cling to the past. Focus on the future; seek a righteous and good wife, propose to her, and marry her. Be assured of good, if Allah wills, as long as you have the desire for good. And you must repent from your sins and evil deeds, and ask your Lord for success and assistance. [Al-Talaq:2], and praise be to Allah.
