The Practical Sunnahs Before Sleep

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A person from Kuwait, who has anonymized his name as (M. M), asks: What are the sunnahs that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform before sleeping?

Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the prescribed dhikr before sleeping. It is the sunnah for the believer to recite the prescribed dhikr that scholars have mentioned in the books of hadith when going to sleep. He said:
Allahumma bismika ahya wa amutاللهم باسمك أحيا وأموت
Sahih al-Bukhari 7394
when he places his hand under his right cheek, lying on his side, and is in a state of ritual purity, and he says:
In Thy name, my mercy on it, but if Thou lettest it go, guard it with that which Thou guardest Thy upright servants.اللهم باسمك أحيا وأموت، اللهم باسمك ربي وضعت جنبي وبك أرفعه، إن أمسكت نفسي فارحمها، وإن أرسلتها فاحفظها
Sunan Abi Dawud 5050Sahih (Al-Albani)
and the like of what is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him). A person should seek out what scholars have mentioned in the books of hadith so that he may do so.
Likewise, he recites Ayat al-Kursi when going to sleep, and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and the two Mu'awwidhat three times when going to sleep. All of this is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. This is among the causes of protection and safety. Yes.
