Ruling on the use of perfumes that may contain alcohol
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother is asking about the use of some perfumes in which he suspects the presence of alcohol; does it invalidate the ablution?
Answer:
First, the original ruling is permissibility and safety, so one does not say of perfumes that they contain such and such unless there is evidence. Allah, Exalted and Majestic, has permitted to His servants what is on the earth. He said: [al-Baqarah:29]. So the original ruling is permissibility for the servants, unless it is established that this perfume was extracted from something whose large quantity intoxicates; based on the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): "WJami` at-Tirmidhi 1865Hasan (Darussalam)," this is how he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1865Hasan (Darussalam).
So if a believer knows with certainty, without any doubt, that this perfume is from a substance whose large quantity intoxicates, then he does not use it. But if he does not know that, then there is no blame on him in using the perfume in its various types, and there is no blame on him in selling and buying it, and in it being in his clothes; all of that is without blame, because the original ruling is permissibility, and praise be to Allah.
