Ruling on inviting people to coffee and cakes as charity on behalf of the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a questioner for the program from Taif. He says: Some people make coffee, or prepare coffee, and invite some relatives, and distribute some cakes with the coffee, saying that this is a gift for our deceased. Is that permissible, and does it become charity that reaches the deceased, or not? And is it permissible to attend such gatherings as paid guests?

Answer:
If they do this for their relatives or their neighbors, there is nothing wrong with it. If they are poor, it becomes charity. But if they are rich, it is not charity. Charity is for the poor. As for this, if it is with the rich, it is not charity, but it is in the category of a gift and in the category of honoring relatives or neighbors, and there is nothing wrong with that. Charity is for the poor. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
