Assisting in the marriage of her sister to a family with much corruption
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Her last question, from Umm Bilal of Yemen, she says: I have a question. I married my sister, or more accurately, I was an intermediary in her marriage to a family where there is much corruption. My sister knew about this before her marriage, and even now she is convinced of it, but my conscience is troubling me about it. So, am I sinful for my intermediation in this marriage for my sister?
Please advise us, O Shaykh.
Answer:
It is obligatory for the believer to give advice to his brother in Allah and his sister in Allah, and to his brother in kinship and his sister in kinship, and to fear Allah in that. So, if you intermediated in her marriage to a man who harms her in her religion, then this is a mistake on your part, and you must repent to Allah.
And as for if you intermediated because you saw that he was suitable, and there was no harm in it, but the corruption came after that, then it does not harm you. It is obligatory for the advisor to fear Allah, and not to advise, and not to suggest, except for the thing that clears the conscience, and in which there is no religious concern. It is not permissible for you to suggest a husband who is not upright; because he harms the wife. So, if this husband is not upright, and you know that he is not upright, then you have made a mistake, and you must repent to Allah (may He be Exalted), Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
