The Difference Between Satan's Whispers and the Thoughts of the Self

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A thought may occur to the self, and we do not know whether it is from Satan's whispers or from the talk of the good self? How can we distinguish between Satan's whispers and the thoughts of the self?

Answer:
As for thoughts regarding calling to good, encouraging good, and urging what pleases Allah, they are among the inspirations of the angel. Satan has an inspiration, and the angel has an inspiration. The inspiration of the angel is a promise of good and affirmation of the truth. The inspiration of Satan is denial of the truth and a promise of evil.
So, the concerns and thoughts that come to the heart, if they are in good and a call to good, they are from Allah, from His mercy for you, and His kindness to you, through the angels who have been entrusted with you.
And if Allah grants you a favor in your heart from Him, and kindness from Him, without the mediation of the angels, it is from His mercy for you and His kindness to you. He bestows His favor and kindness upon whom He wills (Exalted and Majestic is He).
As for calls to evil, making evil attractive, and denial of the truth; this is from the schemes of Satan, and from the inspiration and whispers of Satan.
