The ruling on verbalizing the intention when slaughtering the 'Id sacrifice and the pilgrimage offering

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to verbalize the intention when slaughtering the 'Id sacrifice and the pilgrimage offering?

Answer:
It is prescribed to verbalize it and say: "O Allah, it is from You and for You, this is a sacrifice for so-and-so," just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to verbalize it. And so it is with the pilgrimage offering; one says: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest." If he names it, there is no harm; he names it as an offering for so-and-so. Otherwise, the intention is sufficient, and he says: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest." If he recites:
Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrificeإِنَّ صَلاتِي وَنُسُكِي ....
[al-An'am:162], and so on, there is no harm. If he says: "O Allah, accept from so-and-so," there is no harm, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. However, it is obligatory to mention the name of Allah, and it is better to say with it: "and Allah is the Greatest"; "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest."
As for the 'Id sacrifice, one says: "for so-and-so," just as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
from Muhammad and the family of Muhammadعن محمد وآل محمد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:43
, regarding the sacrifice. As for the pilgrimage offering, the intention is sufficient in the offering, whether it is an offering for tamattu' or qiran, or for leaving an obligatory act or committing a prohibited act. The intention is sufficient, and he says: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest."
