The ruling on a woman shaking hands with an elderly non-mahram man

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, Umm Rashid from the Green Yemen, says: O Shaykh, sometimes I am in a gathering with some women, and an elderly man enters, greets us, and extends his hand for a handshake. I did not extend my hand, but the women with me get angry at me. Is this action correct or not?

Answer:
A woman does not shake hands with men who are not her mahram, but she returns the greeting by saying: "And upon you be peace." As for shaking hands, no, it is not permissible for a woman to shake hands with a non-mahram man. She only shakes hands with her mahram, such as her brother or her father. As for non-mahram men, no. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman; he only pledged allegiance to them by words."
So you must disapprove of them when they shake hands. Disapprove of them, teach them, and guide them. May Allah bless you. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
