The ruling on one who swore an oath to do something and was unable to carry it out

Question:
A friend of mine decided to wear the hijab, so out of my joy I swore that I would throw a party for her. If I am unable to do so, what is the ruling?
Answer:
If you swore by Allah, what is prescribed for you is to fulfill your oath and keep it; because Allah said: [Al-Ma'idah: 89]. If you fulfill your oath, that is better, and it encourages her to wear the hijab, and it is approval of her good deed, and it encourages others as well. And if it is difficult for you, expiate the oath with an expiation for an oath, and praise be to Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6622. So if a person sees that it is difficult for him, he expiates his oath, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
