The ruling on performing one 'Umrah on behalf of several individuals

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner asks: I have many brothers. Is it permissible for me to perform one 'Umrah and dedicate its reward to all of them, knowing that some of them do not consistently maintain the prayer?

Answer:
'Umrah is only performed on behalf of one person, and Hajj is only performed on behalf of one person. So it is not permissible for you to perform Hajj on behalf of a group, nor to perform 'Umrah on behalf of a group. Rather, Hajj is only for one person, and 'Umrah is only for one person. If the person for whom it is performed is deceased, or if the person for whom 'Umrah is performed is deceased or unable due to an illness that is not expected to end, or due to old age and inability to perform Hajj and 'Umrah, then there is no harm in performing Hajj or 'Umrah on behalf of one person. Yes.
And if he gives you money—whether it is his guardian or he himself, if he is unable—for you to perform Hajj on his behalf, there is no harm if you take it for the sake of Allah, not for the sake of worldly gain. Yes.

The presenter: Your Eminence! May Allah reward you with good. He mentions that they do not maintain the prayer?

The Shaykh: One who does not maintain the prayer is not to be performed Hajj on his behalf. If the person is deceased or unable to perform Hajj due to old age or an illness that is not expected to end, and he does not pray, or he has something that expiates for him other than leaving the prayer, then Hajj is not performed on his behalf. Leaving the prayer is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
