Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What do you advise one who is afflicted with many intrusive thoughts in ablution and in prayer?

Answer:
He should seek refuge in Allah from Satan. We advise him to seek refuge in Allah from Satan:
(1) Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, (2) The Sovereign of mankind. (3) The God of mankind, (4) From the evil of the retreating whisperer -قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ ۝ مَلِكِ النَّاسِ ۝ إِلَهِ النَّاسِ ۝ مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
[Al-Nas:1- 4],
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allahوَإِمَّا يَنْزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ
[Al-A'raf:200]. Some of the Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, Satan has confused my prayer for me? It was Uthman ibn Abi al-As, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him, saying:
seek refuge with Allah from the Shaitan three times, and spit dryly to your left three timesاستعذ بالله من الشيطان ثلاث مرات، واتفل عن يسارك ثلاث مرات
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3776Sahih (Darussalam)
. Uthman said: So I did that, and Allah removed from me what I was feeling.
Q: What is the best book written on this?
A: I do not recall anything, but "Ighathat al-Lahfan" is good by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him), "Ighathat al-Lahfan min Wasa'is al-Shaytan" (The Relief of the Distressed from the Whispers of Satan).
Q: Does he spit during the prayer itself?
A: Yes, during the prayer itself.
Q: Does he turn during the prayer itself and spit?
A: Yes, during the prayer itself, to his left, a little.
