Preventing a child from lending money
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
I have come to know the status of the lender in the sight of Allah, and I wish to engage in this work, but the problem is that my parents do not approve of it?
Answer: You should lend without their knowledge, because they have no right to prevent you from a religious obligation. However, you should show them obedience in this matter so that there is no evil between you. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani) It is not among good conduct to prevent you from being generous to your brothers and sisters in Allah. This is not good conduct. If they fear the loss of the money, then be cautious and lend with a pledge or guarantee, thereby combining the benefits of preserving your wealth and pleasing your parents. If they do not allow it, even with a guarantee or a pledge, then lend in secret, and there is no blame on you for that.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. This is if the loan is for people, but if it is for Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) ... how do you advise her?
The Shaykh: She should strive in righteous deeds in general. But if her parents do not approve of her fasting, for example, and they say, "This is hard for you," or such things, then she should fast in secret and not reveal anything of it to them, or she should fast in the winter so that they do not notice. Because obedience to parents is of great importance, and they have great care for their children out of mercy, affection, and concern for the son or daughter. If she accommodates them and shows agreement with their opinion, there is nothing wrong with that, as a form of accommodation and to keep their hearts at ease so that they do not hold anything against her. She should seize opportunities at appropriate times. If she leaves off fasting out of obedience to them, she will not attain that great good and the reward of those who fast.
If it is not possible for her to fast in secret because they know about it, she should leave off fasting and not quarrel with her parents. She must not quarrel with her parents; rather, she should observe their pleasure, because dutifulness to them is obligatory, and voluntary fasting is a supererogatory act. If they do not allow it and it is hard for them, and they might hit her or boycott her, she should leave it off. Yes. This is leaving off a recommended act to preserve an obligatory one.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. So, lending in the cause of Allah the Exalted is not limited to the material loan known as money.
The Shaykh: [Surat al-Taghabun:17] meaning through obedience.
The presenter: Through obedience. May Allah reward you.
