The Sufficiency of the 'Id Prayer in Place of Jumu'ah and Praying It as Zuhr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If the 'Id falls on a Friday, does the 'Id prayer suffice in place of the Jumu'ah prayer? And if they pray on Friday, is the Jumu'ah prayer considered an expiation until the next week?

Answer:
If the 'Id falls on a Friday, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained that whoever prays the 'Id, it suffices for him in place of Jumu'ah, and he prays Zuhr. So if he prays the 'Id prayer with the people, the imams establish the Jumu'ah prayer—the imams of the congregational mosques must establish the Jumu'ah prayer—and they pray with those present. As for whoever did not attend, and whoever prayed the 'Id, he must pray Zuhr in his house, or with some of his brothers, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
Allah made Jumu'ah an expiation if one purifies himself in his house, then comes, and prays what Allah has decreed for him, attends the sermon, listens, does not separate two people, and does not harm anyone; his Jumu'ah becomes an expiation for what is between it and the next Jumu'ah, plus three days; because a good deed is rewarded ten times over. But this does not mean that it is an expiation for neglecting the prayers that follow, and neglecting rights. No, he must fulfill the rights upon him, fear Allah, and fulfill the rights in all his times, in prayers and otherwise. He is inevitably a place for slips and a place for sins, so this Jumu'ah becomes an expiation for the minor sins that may occur from him.
As for the obligatory duties, he must perform them. Some of the ignorant say: "The Jumu'ah prayer will suffice for me," and they neglect the prayers... This is a great abomination, disbelief, and misguidance. We ask Allah for safety.
The expiation is like how repentance is an expiation, and like how the five prayers are an expiation. But this does not mean that this man who prays Jumu'ah neglects the other prayers and says: "The next Jumu'ah will expiate for him," or neglects the other rights, and does not enjoin good, and does not forbid evil, or is undutiful to his parents, or severs his family ties, or bears false witness, or claims what is false, wanting the Jumu'ah to expiate for him. No, this is great ignorance and far misguidance. We seek refuge in Allah.
