The Preoccupation with This World and Neglect of the Hereafter
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A word of guidance regarding some people’s preoccupation with accumulating wealth and neglecting the Hereafter?
Answer:
Answer: Allah the Exalted said: “O you who believe! Let not your wealth and your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah, and whoever does that, it is they who are the losers.” And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, said: “Within them [the mosques] men glorify Him in the morning and in the afternoon, men whom neither trade nor commerce diverts from the remembrance of Allah and the establishment of prayer and the giving of zakah.” And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, said: “O you who believe! When the call is made for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you if you only knew. And when the prayer has been completed, disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah much that you may succeed.” It is not permissible for a believer to be occupied with this world, to be lazy about the deeds of the Hereafter, or to neglect the deeds of the Hereafter, in which case he will be a loser. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: “It is they who are the losers,” even if they took all of this world, they would still be losers if they neglected their religion or were lax in it.
