Explaining the wisdom in the prescription of fasting and mentioning some of the benefits of fasting

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q230: The questioner asks: What is the wisdom in the prescription of fasting?
A230: The wisdom in fasting is that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous -يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:183]
. The wisdom is explained in that fasting is the mindfulness of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, and also part of the wisdom is that it accustoms a person to obeying Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and to be patient with hunger and thirst, and to leave what his soul desires and what he needs, for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in obedience to Him. In the Qudsi Hadith, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
The Fast is for Me and I will give the reward for it, as he (the one who observes the fast) leaves his sexual desire, food and drink for My Sake.الصوم لي وأنا أجزي به، يدع شهوته، وطعامه، وشرابه من أجلي
Sahih al-Bukhari 7492
