Explaining what is obligatory for one who did not know that Ramadan had begun until after the dawn

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q260: The questioner asks: What is obligatory for one who did not know that the month of Ramadan had begun until after the dawn had appeared?
A260: If people do not know about the sighting of the crescent moon until after the dawn has appeared, they must abstain for the rest of the day and make up that day after Ramadan; because they did not fast it in its entirety. The one who saw the crescent moon does not fast except with the people; he does not fast alone. No, he fasts with the people; based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The fast is the day the people fast, the breaking of the fast is the day the people break their fast, and the sacrifice is the day the people sacrifice.الصوم يوم تصومون، والفطر يوم تفطرون، والأضحى يوم تضحون
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 697Hasan (Darussalam)
. This contains a prohibition against deviating and separating oneself from the Muslims.
