Ruling on the purity of water from which dogs drink

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q114: The questioner, Z. M. R. 'A from Amalah, says: There is a water pool near us from which we drink and from which we take water to our homes using jerrycans. However, the place where we fill the jerrycans and perform wudu' leaks water onto the ground, and sometimes dogs come and drink from it. When we come to perform wudu' or to take water, some of what the dogs left behind falls on our clothes or on the jerrycans. Does this affect the purity of our clothes, and how many washes are required to remove what has adhered to our clothes? Likewise, do the jerrycans need to be washed or not? And if the impurity of a dog touches the garment directly, how must we wash and purify it?
A114: We do not see a reason for this strictness, as long as a large amount of this leaked water has gathered, the dogs drinking from it or performing wudu' in it does not affect it; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about water in the desert and what wild animals do to it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If water reaches two qullahs, it does not carry impurityإذا بلغ الماء قلتين لم يحمل الخبث
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 1:11
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Water is pure and is not defiled by anything.الماء طهور لا ينجسه شيء
Sunan Abi Dawud 66Sahih (Al-Albani)
except if impurity overcomes its color, taste, or smell
that occurs in it. The original state of this water is that it is purifying and does not become impure from what touches it, especially if it is a large amount as we mentioned; as for the impurity of the dog if it touches the garment, or if something from the dog, such as its saliva, touches it, it is purified by washing it in a way that removes the impurity, like other impurities, and Allah the Exalted knows best.
