Ruling on making up fasts of Ramadan in the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q429: The questioner Abu Sa'd from Jeddah Province says: If a woman
has days remaining from Ramadan that she did not fast due to an excuse, and the days of the ten have entered, is it permissible for her to fast these ten days, including the Day of 'Arafah, as voluntary fasts before making up the remaining days of Ramadan, or should she fast these ten days with the intention of making up the fasts?

A429: It is obligatory for her to fast what she missed from Ramadan as make-up fasts. The time for making up the fasts is extended until there is no time left before the coming Ramadan except the duration of these days, in which case it becomes obligatory for her to fast, so that Ramadan arrives and she has already performed the fasting of the first month. There is no harm in her fasting ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, and in fasting the Day of 'Arafah, even if she has not made up the days of Ramadan; because the time for making up Ramadan is extended, and these are days that are lost if missed.
